Counselling with give you a safe time and place to talk to someone in confidence who won’t judge you. Also being listened to will help you to make sense of anything which you may consider is having an adverse effect on you or the people around you. The counsellor is there to support and respect your words and views and help you resolve complicated feelings and discover new coping strategies.
Trauma counselling at Korora Counselling involves creating a safe and supportive environment where you can explore and process your traumatic experiences. We use various therapeutic techniques to help you understand your trauma, manage symptoms, and work towards healing. Our goal is to provide you with the tools and support you need to navigate your healing journey effectively.
Typically, a session lasts for 50 minutes but if you feel during a session you want to stop, it can be any length that suits you on the day.
Weekly sessions are advisable for continuity and for helping you move forward but it can be a different frequency to suit your circumstances. I wouldn’t recommend more than fortnightly initially. We can discuss and agree what is best for you.
I can understand why you might want to do this but another person with you may take away from your counselling journey and can impact on the counselling relationship that we need to build together. You are the most important person during this process and the focus needs to be for you alone.
No, there is no minimum or maximum number of sessions. This is your journey, and we will discuss and agree as we progress. Typically, we would review and decide after six sessions, but you can stop at any point.
No, you can stop your counselling at any point, I just ask for a minimum of 24 hours’ notice before your next booked session if possible so that you do not incur any cancellation charges.
Confidentiality is the fundamental basis of your counselling journey and building our counselling relationship. Everything you share with me will be kept strictly confidential unless it falls into the following categories, where I have obligations under Law and Safe-Guarding:
1. If you pose serious threat to yourself, vulnerable adults, or children.
2. If I am ordered to by a Court of Law.
3. If I am instructed by the Law in relation to counter terrorism, money laundering or drug trafficking.
Private practices such as myself charge a fee for our services – please see my Fees & Contact section. You can get free counselling through the NHS, via your GP if you prefer. There can be very long waiting times unfortunately, which you will not experience with me but if you would prefer this option, please contact your GP.
To get the best out of our sessions you should be in a quiet room with no distractions. You need to be on your own and not overheard so you can focus on you alone and not be disturbed. That will also help us maintain the confidentiality that is so important to our counselling relationship.
If you are having online sessions, a stable Wi-Fi connection is important - and that includes me!
At this moment I offer telephone or online counselling to keep my fees as low as possible. This also means that you can be based anywhere in the UK and counselling is accessible for you.
I also offer face to face sessions at Vitalita Therapies, Kilmarnock KA1 1HN, as well as home visits in the G1 postcode of Glasgow if that is a convenient option for you.
